The A.O. Smith Hot UV water purifier model no is Z1. The water purifier dimensions are (HxDxW) 482mm x 369mm x 326mm. It has a net weight of 7.65 kg and a gross weight of 11.70 kgs approximately. The water tank storage capacity is 9.2 litres and the hot water tank storage capacity is 0.8 litres. It uses UV purification technology to purify water. Ao Smith Z1 water purifier uses 5 stages purifying technology, that Pre-filter – Sediment filter – Silver Activated Post Carbon – UV – UFSS filter (for hot water only). The plastic parts used in this purifier are made of food-safe, non-toxic, engineering-grade plastics. The input voltage is 150-300 VAC, 50 Hz, the power rating is 36 watts and the pressure rating is 5 psi to 30 psi. I purchased AO Smith Z1 Hot UV water purifier in December 2017 from a local appliances dealer shop. I had paid a total price of Rs.14,500/- including taxes.
The AO Smith technician visited and did the installation the next day.

I am using the AO Smith Z1 Hot UV water purifier for the last 2 years and 6 months. This Ao Smith water purifier provides all user-friendly features. It is easy to use because of its digital display. This is an advanced water purifier with features like UV purification, a transparent 10 litres water tank, night-assist, UV life alert, UV indicator, Tank-full indicator, one-press heat button, advanced UV lamp, quick water heating, two separate taps for normal and hot water, easy to use taps, easy to clean drip tray.
The AO Smith water purifier has a 5 stage purification system. The Pre-filter is used to remove physical contaminants, this process improves the life of the Sediment filter. The Sediment filter is used to remove fine and coarse physical contaminants, this process improves the life of the Silver Activated Post Carbon. The water is passed through Silver Activated Post Carbon which acts as a polisher and enhances the water’s taste. In the 4th stage, the UV lamp disinfects the water using UV rays by eliminating waterborne diseases caused by harmful bacteria and viruses making it healthy for drinking and cooking. In the final stage of hot water, it is passed through the Ultra-fine SS filter to remove all the particulate and scale matter developed during the heating cycle.
The AO Smith Z1 UV water purifier is capable of dispensing water at two temperature settings. This feature is easy to use. To heat water between 45-50 degrees c, the heat button should be pressed just once. It takes 1-2 minutes approximately for water to heat at 50 degrees temperature and it is indicated with a beep that water is hot and ready. I use this hot water for drinking. To heat water between 80-85 degrees c, the heat button should be pressed and held for 3 seconds, this process changes the settings and water is heated at 80 degrees c. It takes approximately 3-4 minutes for the water to heat at 80 degrees c. It is indicated with a beep sound that the water is heated and ready for use. I use this 80 degrees c water for cooking purposes. This quick water heating feature makes all my kitchen work easy. Its daily use for drinking and cooking purposes does not cause any major effect on the monthly electricity bill.
It provides 2 separate taps for purified normal-temperature water and heated water. These taps are easy to use. The tap for hot water dispensing features a special button, the hot water is released only when this button is pressed with the tap flap in the up position. This is a special safety feature provided to avoid any harm to a child or an elderly person because of hot water.
The AO Smith Z1 water purifier displays indicators like the UV-on indicator which indicates that the water is being processed through UV light and the water tank is getting filled. The Tank-full indicator tells that the tank is full of purified water and is ready for drinking and heating purposes. The UV change indicators tell that it is time to change the UV lamp. The SCPA change indicator tells us to replace the Sediment filter and Silver Activated Post Carbon. The temperature indicator shows the exact water temperature all the time. The water heating button red light indicates that the water is being heated.
The AO Smith Z1 water purifier can be kept on a tabletop, or counter or it can be mounted on the wall. It features an easy-to-clean drip tray, the spilt water gets collected in this tray keeping the countertop clean. This drip tray can be removed for cleaning.
This AO Smith Z1 UV hot water purifier has one major defect in its design. The top-cover is loose fitting which helps Ants to enter the purifier up to the water tank. Through this loose top cover Ants enter into the purified water, making it useless. To solve this issue, the AO Smith company provides a free and new tight-fitting top cover to eliminate ants entry issues. When I had the same issue, the Ao Smith Technician visited, he put cello tape around the top cover as a temporary solution. That time the new top cover was out of stock and he was supposed to visit again in a month to replace it, but Lockdown happened. Now I have kept it on hold because of fear of Corona-Virus infection. I was informed by the technician that all future products and models have been upgraded with a tight-fitting top cover.
The AO Smith Z1 water purifier requires servicing every 6 months. The AO Smith after-sales service is very good. The Ao Smith Technician visits within 24 hours of the registered complaint about service. The AO Smith Technician charges Rs.400/- as service charges per visit. The AO Smith Z1 Hot UV water purifier Pre-filter price is around Rs.1200/-, which needs to be changed in every six months.
In the AO Smith Z1 Hot UV water purifier review, I will like to mention that it is an advanced water purifier with all user-friendly features. I love to use it because of its instant hot water feature which saves my time and money on water boiling process using Gas-stove. The purified water is crystal clear, odour free and tastes normal.
