Agni Arpanam Isha Yoga Center
This post is about Agni Arpanam offered at the Isha Yoga Center, Coimbatore. ‘Agni Arpanam’ means offering of Fire. On the Mahalaya Amavasya Agni is offered to Linga Bhairavi Devi. It is one of the rituals performed on Mahalaya Amavasya at Linga Bhairavi Devi Temple. I offered Agni Arpanam on this Mahalaya Amavasya i.e. 13th October 2023. Here I have shared information on the basis of my experience and knowledge.
What Is Agni Arpanam
On the Mahalaya Amavasya, ‘Agni’ meaning fire is offered to Shri Linga Bhairavi Devi. Agni Arpanam is offered to express our gratitude to our ancestors who have contributed to and nurtured our lives. It is an easy process, offered in the presence of Devi, to ensure that our ancestors make their peaceful transition to the afterlife. Most of the families face strong Pitru Doshas, because of which youngsters in the family suffer a lot. In such cases, this Agni Arpanam ritual can be of great help. It offers a powerful opportunity, to connect with our ancestors, and express our gratitude towards them. This happens in the strong and powerful presence of Shri Linga Bhairavi Devi, who takes care of the overall well-being of all living beings and dead beings. Offering Agni Arpanam, in a consecrated space like Isha Yoga Center, on the Mahalaya Amavasya day, In the presence of linga Bhairavi Devi and in the grace of Shri Sadguru, is a one-of-a-kind and most effective opportunity, everyone should make use of it.

What Is Mahalaya Amavasya
Mahalaya Amavasya is a new moon day which comes just before Navaratri. It marks the end of 15 days of Shraadha rituals which is known as Pitru Paksha. Mahalaya Amavasya is a special day dedicated to offerings to express our gratitude to our ancestors and all others who have contributed to and nurtured our lives.
How Agni Arpanam Is Offered
Agni Arpanam as a Mahalaya Amavasya ritual can be offered in-person or online by everyone. It is offered outside of the Linga Bhairavi Temple, near Trimurti Panel. On 13th October 2023, Agni Arpanam started early in the morning, around 7:00 am. There were readymade cotton potlis for Rs.20/- each at the Devi offerings counter. Inside the potli, there were a few ingredients which are used in Shraadha rituals and they were covered with a white cotton cloth. It was in the shape of a round small potli. I am not sure about the ingredients inside the cotton potli, I think it had black sesame seeds. One cotton potli for each ancestor, like this minimum of one ball, was offered and the maximum numbers were according to individual need.
The process was to hold the cotton potli in hand, express gratitude towards an ancestor and pray for his peaceful afterlife journey. Then offer the potli into the fire which is placed inside the big Urlis near the Trimurthi Panel. There were 3 Huge Urlis decorated and kept in front of the Trimurti Panels. It had a fire burning inside. It was a simple process designed by Sadguru, for us to get freedom from the Pitru Doshas. In simple words, Pitru Doshas means paying the karmic debt of the ancestors. I purchased 2 balls and prayed to the devi, first praying for her grace upon my ancestors. Then I prayed to my ancestors and expressed my gratitude towards them. And then I offered those cotton potlis to the fire inside one of the Urlis.
Agni Arpanam – In Person
Agni Arpanam started early morning on the 13th of October and it was going on till the night. When you offer Agni Arpanam in person, you need not do the registration. Just go to the Devi offerings counter, purchase cotton potlis, offer the prayers and do the offerings.
Agni Arpanam – Online
If you are not able to do the offerings in person, you can register online for Agni Arpanam. In this, offerings will be made in the presence of Linga Bhairavi on your behalf for each departed relative or ancestor. I did online registration for Agni Arpanam by paying Rs.110/- for one ancestor. I received a confirmation email for this ritual. In that email, all the information regarding the process was mentioned. For online Agni Arpanam, the timings were 13th October 2023, between 6 PM to 9 PM. During that time, one has to light an oil or ghee lamp at home in front of Shri Linga Bhairavi Devi’s photo in remembrance of your ancestors and chant 3 cycles of Linga Bhairavi Stuti.
Agni Arpanam Ritual – My Experience
This is the first time, I was present in the Isha Yoga Center during Mahalaya Amavasya. Around Devi Temple, there were panels advertising the Agni Arpanam ritual. I also received forwarded WhatsApp messages about the Mahalaya Amavasya Offerings. Since I was present there, I thought of offering the Agni Arpanam. I chose to offer it to my departed relatives and prayed for their peaceful afterlife journey. I offered Agni Arpanam to Devi, strongly believing in her grace and believing that my departed relatives would now leave a peaceful afterlife. I feel, that every ritual or yogic practice done at the consecrated space like Isha Yoga Center, helps to dissolve my karmic structure. After offering Agni Arpanam to the Linga Bhairavi Devi, I am feeling lighter and a little more joyful after treating my Pitru Dosha. I am so thankful to Shri Sadguruji. He knows what he is doing. He is taking care of everything, the living and the dead, He is a real mother to the world.
The next day of Mahalaya Amavasya, when I went to Linga Bhairavi Devi Temple, I saw that the 3 huge Urlis were full of cotton potlis and they were still burning and the atmosphere there was full of sesame seeds fragrance. Suddenly I realised, that last night Kala Bhairav Shanti process was also offered by so many devotees. This place, Isha Yoga Center, on the 13th night offered a blessing of a peaceful afterlife to so many departed beings and so many ancestors. Offering such powerful and effective offerings on a large scale is not an easy task. It takes a lot, which only Sri Sadguru knows. We are so lucky, that Shri Sadguruji is taking care of everything for us.
I am thankful to Shri Sadguruji, to the Linga Bhairavi Devi, to the Swamis, Maas and all the Isha volunteers who made this happen for all of us. Thanks for everything.
