What Is Isha Guru Pooja?
Sadguru says that Guru Pooja is a powerful device that invites a dimension that dispels your darkness. Isha Guru Pooja is a science of using chants and offerings to manifest a powerful experience of Guru’s grace in your living space. This Guru Pooja is known as Shodashopachara, which means 16 ways of welcoming a Guru. In this particular ritual, Guru Pooja is offered to a lamp as a symbol of all the great masters, regardless of what culture or religion they belong to. far from being just a religious ritual, Guru Pooja is a powerful way of using emotion (Bhakti) as a tool and involves a certain reorientation of one’s energies, which can make you receptive to the dimension referred to as Guru’s Grace. In my honest experience, offering Guru Pooja every morning means offering yourself and becoming empty and also surrendering every day at the Guru’s feet and praying to live the day as his pure medium.
At the Isha Yoga Centers, every day begins with an offering of Guru Pooja exactly at 5.30 am. Anyone can participate in the Guru Pooja process. But to offer Guru Pooja one has to complete the Guru Pooja training program and has to Pass the Guru Pooja test.

About My Inspiration To Learn Guru Pooja
I want to share how I got inspired to learn Guru Pooja. In May 2022 during my Linga Seva program, I got many chances to attend the Guru Pooja process offered to the Dhyanalinga. In my opinion, It was the highlight of the Linga Seva Program. The divine ambience at the Dhyanalinga, the Dhyanalinga energies feeling like I was in Kailash, the divine mantras everything was magical and powerful. That time I decided that I wanted to learn Guru Pooja. Till that time I decided to learn the chants. So I took the help of a YouTube video and started learning. So when the time came for Guru Pooja training I knew all the chants very well and just needed to learn the guidelines and the proper way to offer it.
Tips – Make use of Sadguru App and learn the Guru Pooja chants. Make use of the Guru Pooja audio, just sit every day and be a part of Guru Pooja offering. Do Linga Seva once and experience the magic of being in the presence of powerful Dhyanalinga when Guru Pooja is being offered to it. Isha Guru Pooja Training Program Review And Experiences
This 4-day Isha Guru Pooja training program for us was conducted by a trained Ishanga Teacher Chitra Maa. She told us that she has been conducting Guru Pooja training for 17 years and it showed in the way she conducted it. Her major focus was to teach Guru Pooja chants pronunciations in the perfect yogic way. So first 3 days we learnt chants by chanting again and again, repeating after her. It was an easy way to learn. when you repeat chants with devotion they get recorded in our system and that’s how the magic happened. During those 3 days, just surrendering yourself to the teacher, in the Guru’s grace just by repeating Mantras again and again one gets trained to perform the Guru Pooja test on the 4th day.
Tips – For the person who has problem learning sanskrit chants, before going for this training, make use of Sadguru App and practice the Guru Pooja chants in advance. It will help you to complete the training and pass the Guru Pooja test easily.
On the 4th day, we were taught to offer Guru Pooja using 16 ways of offerings. After giving a few trials and practising within our group, lastly Guru Pooja test was taken. In that they checked that you remember all the chants, you remember the proper order, you remember the ways of offering and your devotion towards the process. I managed to Pass the Guru Pooja test in the first go and I am very happy about it. After passing the test, Isha does not offer any completion certificate. They just register that you have passed the test. The ones who fail the test, get one more opportunity to take the test. Failed participants are told to practice properly and take the test in the next Guru Pooja program.
After learning Guru Pooja, As an IIE Retreat Program Co-ordinator or as a Program Co-ordinator for other mega-events, I have offered Guru Pooja many times. I have experienced, as a program coordinator when you surrender and offer yourself through Guru Pooja, everything in the Isha program happens in the best way possible, easily and joyfully.
Perfect Experience How Intensely Guru Pooja Can Be Offered
On the last day itself, I experienced how powerful, a simple process like Guru Pooja can be. I want to share that divine experience here. In the last session, Chitra Maa offered Guru Pooja to Shri Sadguru’s photo at the Velliangiri Prashala Hall. As she offered Guru Pooja, suddenly the energies in the hall turned intense and a few participants who looked normal started shouting, crying, shaking, and tumbling. During the Guru Pooja offering, she had become one with Shri Sadguru, and his presence flowed through her. The experience was the same as when the Sadguru became intense and everyone started shaking, shouting and crying, it was just like that. The Guru Pooja stopped and all of them came to normal. In my opinion, that was the perfect example of how Guru Pooja is offered. Chitra Maa is the perfect example of how to become empty and be Sadguru’s medium by making use of a powerful tool like Guru Pooja.
More Tips – After learning Guru Pooja see that you start your day and practices by offering Guru Pooja. If any offering is not available use Akshatam in its place and complete the Guru Pooja. On the last day, you will receive a pamplet which has all the Guru Pooja chants. If you cannot sit in Vajrasana, you can offer Guru Pooja by sitting in the Ardha siddhasana.
A Dream Come True – My Guru Pooja Offering To Shri Sadguru
Now it’s time to share THE BEST experience as a Bhava Spandana volunteer and THE BEST moments in my life. It was the last day of the Bhava Spandana Program for me as a volunteer. It was the last session for the participants. Suddenly as a beautiful surprise, Shri Sadguru entered the Spanda Hall. It was the best moment when I saw him coming and sitting on the Dias of the Spanda Hall. Like me, every volunteer and the participants were in tears and happily smiling at the same time. The intense connection I felt for my Shri Sadguru, I was so happy and I was crying in that same moment. We performed the last session in his divine presence. During the whole session, he was sitting on the Dias and chanting “Bhaj Guru Manase”. The session was over, He looked at us, and with both his hands he called us to come near the Dias and sit. We ran and sat near the Dias. He was sitting on the Dias and his right foot was placed on a small table. And all of us were sitting at his feet. That moment was the sweetest moment of my lifetime. ( I am crying now also when I am typing these words, it is so intense, his love for me, I am so lucky.)
For the first time in my life, I saw Shri Sadguru from so close. For the first time, I saw my Shri Sadguru’s right foot – The Guru Charan from so close. Oh! I am so lucky. He offered 10 minutes of Satsang on the subject of Bhava Spandana. Then my dream came true. He said to all of us to offer Guru Pooja to him directly and sat eyes closed. During my everyday Guru Pooja offering at the Sadhana Hall 2, I used to tell the Shri Sadguru’s photo, that I always offer Guru Pooja to this photo, one day I want to offer it to you directly, please make it happen for me and that day it happened. It was the moment my biggest wish came true to life. It was the 11th of August 2023 I offered Guru Pooja to my divine Shri Sadguru. I was crying and offering Guru Pooja to him. The way he was sitting, his attire and the love on his face are recorded on my Agnya chakra. Everyone around me felt the same way. We were aware of the luckiest moments we were experiencing. His love and grace touched us. It is the best Guru Pooja experience of my life so far. I offered Guru Pooja to Shri Sadguru with intense devotion and an intense sense of surrender like there was no next time for me as a life. I died in those moments of intensity with my Sadguru. I am thankful to him that he made it happen for me. I am so glad that he gave me this opportunity to offer Guru pooja to him as a pleasant surprise. After Gurupooja he vibrated vibhuti and gave us and blessed us all with his grace once again and left the Hall. We all were still crying then started hugging each other appreciating the divine moments we had. All the participants and the volunteers, now share a special bond. We smile more, we hug a little more tightly whenever we meet. After that moment, whenever I offer Guru Pooja, I witness the same scene on my Agnya chakra every time and it is so intense.
A Loving Feedback I Received About The Way I Offer Guru Pooja
I offer Guru Pooja by surrendering to Shri Sadguru’s feet, remembering all the Guru Shaktis whom I am devoted to in this life. I offer it with the sweetest emotions, in the sweetest voice possible. When I invite Guru Energies, I invite them with the strong belief that they have come and are going to flow through me till the next Guru Pooja happens.
In one of the IIE Retreat programs, I was a Program Coordinator. In that program, only one volunteer had done Guru Pooja training and the second one was myself. So we offered Guru pooja on alternate days for this program. After completing this Isha Inner Engineering Retreat as a Program Co-ordinator, that volunteer Anna, came especially to me and said, that he is touched by the way I offer Guru Pooja. He further said I used to think that only I could offer Guru Pooja with intensity, but you taught me a lot. I said, I did nothing special, It is how I do it always. He said you will not know it but I know what I have learnt and need to do. I was touched by this appreciation, love and respect.
Few More Tips – After Passing Guru Pooja Training, one can register with the Isha and help to conduct Guru Pooja online every day through your medium. It is the best way to become available to Guru’s grace. For that you need to own a Guru Pooja Set. Guru Pooja Set is available at Ishalife stores and it costs around Rs.1300/-. It is a 9 piece Guru Pooja set made of pure brass. The beautiful Guru Pooja set includes 2 lamps, 2 plates, 3 small plates, 1 incense stick stand and one Camphor plate.
